Electroless Nickel Plating Services

M.I.P., Inc. offers electroless nickel plating or finishing services for all your engineering needs. MIP meets the specifications required by all major industries including:

  • Military
  • Automotive
  • Aerospace, and
  • Electrical Industries

Electroless nickel plating is generally undertaken in the engineering sector for imparting the following characteristics to components:

  • High abrasion resistance
  • Protecting components against corrosion
  • For salvage purposes and also to provide protection against corrosive chemical environments

Electroless nickel plating is a process in which nickel-alloy deposits are applied onto metallic substrates using an auto catalytic immersion process without the use of electric current. A major benefit of this process is the uniformity of coating, unlike other electroplating processes. MIP uses mid-phosphate nickel plating. Depending on the thickness and phosphorous content, electroless nickel plating is an excellent corrosion inhibitor.

Electroless nickel plating is predominantly used for irregularly shaped, blind holes, cavities and highly detailed geometries of substrates. The finish ranges from matte to bright, depending on the quality of the substrate surface.

MIP uses the following base metal substrates for our electroless nickel plating process:

  • Iron
  • Copper
  • Aluminum

Our electroless nickel plating process conforms to the following standards:

  • MIL C 26074
  • ASTM B733
  • 83229, and
  • PP 13004

We also have in-house equipment such as thickness measurement instruments and X-ray machine to measure thickness of precision parts and components. MIP is a certified Class Two vendor of the ISO 9002 quality system. We have drum or rack plating capabilities for larger and delicate parts that are prone to easier damage. Rack plating is performed by hanging the parts to be plated on racks with stiff wires that hold the parts firmly, ensuring efficient plating. Racking is ideal for grouping individual parts together with electrical continuity so that the individual parts can be plated as a group. This facilitates increased productivity and lower pricing than individually electroplating the same parts.
